A Message from our Program Director
Welcome to our Internal Medicine Residency Program!
It is my pleasure to introduce you to our Internal Medicine residency program at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital, an institution with a proud history of excellence in medical education. Our program has been accredited since 1975, and we were granted Initial Accreditation by the ACGME in 2015, achieving full accreditation in January 2018. We have maintained continued accreditation since then. In alignment with the ACGME Internal Medicine Program Requirements, we offer our residents comprehensive training experience, ensuring they are well-prepared to thrive in the ever-evolving field of healthcare.
About Henry Ford Health Genesys Hospital
Located in Grand Blanc, Michigan, the Henry Ford Health Genesys Hospital is a 410-bed academic teaching facility that provides a wealth of training opportunities across a variety of specialties. In addition to our Internal Medicine residency, we host six other residency programs and four ACGME-accredited subspecialty fellowship programs. The combination of high academic standards and the personalized attention our residents receive makes this program an ideal environment for your medical training.
Core Values and Training Opportunities
Our hospital is guided by the core values of Service of the Poor, Reverence, Integrity, Wisdom, Creativity, and Dedication. These values are reflected in our approach to resident training, which emphasizes hands-on experience balanced with high-quality education.
Recognizing the increasing need for primary care physicians, we have created a Primary Care Track, which provides residents with enhanced exposure to outpatient subspecialties and a curriculum tailored to primary care. The Downtown Health Clinic, located in Flint, Michigan, serves as our residents’ continuity clinic. This freestanding training center allows residents to build strong, independent practices while receiving comprehensive mentorship.
As residents progress through the program, they enjoy significant autonomy in their patient care, while also engaging in important quality improvement, patient safety, and practice management initiatives. Our graduates are not only skilled clinicians, but also leaders in the medical field, excelling in Internal Medicine subspecialties, primary care, hospital medicine, and academia.
A Supportive and Collaborative Environment
On a personal note, I joined Genesys in 2011, and from day one, I’ve been impressed with the incredible camaraderie among our residents. At our program, the term "team" truly reflects the spirit of mutual support and collaboration. Residents treat each other like family, offering help whenever possible. The friendships formed here often last long after their training program ended. The faculty are equally committed to the success of our residents, and we all take great pride in teaching and guiding the next generation of physicians.
A Personal Commitment to Your Success
I have been teaching and training medical students and residents since 1999, and I fully understand the challenges and high demands that come with medical education. My goal is to ensure that our residents experience a well balanced, fulfilling training environment—one that supports both professional and personal growth. I treat each resident as a family member and am deeply committed to helping every individual succeed in becoming an exemplary physician.
We are excited to have you consider joining our program, and I am confident that you will find the training here to be a transformative experience.
