The Birthing Center at Henry Ford Jackson Hospital is designed to promote calming comfort and provide the best beginnings for parents and their newborns. We have achieved the world-class Baby Friendly® designation for excellence in infant feeding, education and support. In addition, our Maternal Health team has earned a platinum designation, the highest honor conferred by the Michigan Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health.

• Obstetrics Emergency Department – The first place an expectant mother will go to on the day of birth, unless there is a scheduled caesarean delivery or labor induction. Completely separate from the hospital’s main Emergency Department, this area promotes a more private and comfortable experience.
• Private rooms in the Mother & Baby Unit, where mom and her newborn stay to encourage early bonding. Obstetric hospitalists are available 24/7.
• Private rooms feature wireless fetal monitoring and jacuzzi tubs to provide additional comfort for laboring mothers.
• State-of-the-art special care nursery offering support for babies born earlier than expected or with a medical complication. Pediatric hospitalists are available at all times to provide extra care.

• The Henry Ford Milk Bank – located in Jackson – provides donor milk to infants who need the additional nutrition provided by breast milk and whose mothers are unable to breastfeed due to various reasons.

Every birthing person is unique, and so are their birthing preferences. Doctors and maternity care nurses prioritize family-centered care. We listen to better understand you and your healthcare needs and to create a birth experience that is right for you and your family. Your maternity care team respects your preferences and privacy. We can offer stand-by support or take a more active role in your baby’s delivery.

Our birthing suites are designed to make you and your family feel at home. Rooms include a TV, queen size bed, special seating for family members, mini fridge, aromatherapy, Himalayan salt lamp, bluetooth speaker, and a large jacuzzi or soaking tub.

The “At Your Request” nutrition program allows you to choose when and what you eat. You may also bring your own food and use our kitchenette area and microwave. Our hospital cafeteria provides food for family members and visitors and we also have vending machines in our family lounge area for snacks and beverages.

Advanced maternity care, if you need it: Due to the center’s close proximity to the hospital’s traditional labor and delivery unit, we can deliver more advanced care, if you need it. In an emergency, our care team is here for you and can quickly connect you with more doctors and specialists.

• Our special care nursery is an 8-bed newborn service unit located in close proximity to the birthing center and NICU. The special care nursery team treats newborns with health problems that require intermediate care and close observation.
