Care Philosophy

My goal is simple: I want you to leave feeling heard, informed, and confident in the care plan we create together. I take the time to understand your concerns, explain your options clearly, and partner with you to make decisions that align with your health goals. As an obstetrician and minimally invasive gynecologic surgeon, I provide compassionate, evidence-based care through every stage of life, using the least invasive approach whenever possible. Above all, I strive to treat every patient with the same honesty, respect, and dedication I would want for my own family.

Research Interests

Dr. Vilkins' scholarly work focuses on improving women's healthcare through minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, patient-centered care, and clinical innovation. Her clinical research centers on chronic pelvic pain, endometriosis, dysmenorrhea, and optimizing surgical outcomes through evidence-based approaches. She has a particular interest in shared decision-making and perioperative opioid stewardship, with research demonstrating that patient engagement can safely reduce opioid prescribing following hysterectomy without compromising pain control or patient satisfaction. Her work has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Obstetrics & Gynecology.

In addition to clinical outcomes research, Dr. Vilkins is passionate about advancing surgical education and innovation. She has led the development of novel technologies to improve laparoscopic teaching, including LaparAssist, a patented hands-free educational device designed to enhance intraoperative communication between surgeons and trainees. As a physician leader, her scholarly interests have expanded to implementation science and quality improvement, translating evidence into system-wide initiatives that improve patient safety, surgical quality, healthcare equity, and the delivery of women's healthcare across Henry Ford Health.

Awards & Honors

Dr. Vilkins has been recognized throughout her career for excellence in patient care, surgical education, research, and innovation. She has been named an Hour Detroit Top Doc for four consecutive years (2023–2026), reflecting recognition by her physician peers for excellence in both gynecology and obstetrics. She has also received numerous teaching awards, including the national CREOG Faculty Award and the Clark P. Kirkman Award for Surgical Education on four occasions, honoring her commitment to training the next generation of obstetrician-gynecologists.

Medical students have also recognized her educational excellence with the Wayne State School of Medicine Faculty Teaching Award. Her scholarly work has received national recognition, including Editor's Pick in Obstetrics & Gynecology for her research on shared decision-making and opioid prescribing after hysterectomy, as well as the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists' Best Video Award for excellence in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.
